Bella Union Hotel Site!

Bella Union Hotel Site
Landmark #656 Los Angeles County Visited: April 30, 2011 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque marking the site of the hotel where the first Butterfield Overland Stage arrived from St. Louis in 1858!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Near this spot stood the Bella Union Hotel, long a social and political center. Here, on October 7, 1858, the first Butterfield Overland Mail stage from the east arrived 21 days after leaving St. Louis. Warren Hall was the driver, and Waterman Ormsby, a reporter, the only through passenger.

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!
