The Great Wall of China!

The Great Wall of China
What is it? The Great Wall of China is the world’s longest wall, stretching 2,150 miles, with branches and off-shoots adding up to an additional 2,195 miles!
What makes it wonderful? You have to see it to believe it! Pictures just don’t do this wall justice; in fact, the first sight in the distance of the jagged ridge covered by this wall is enough to take your breath away! While I can’t say it was the most humanely built wall, it is still a remarkable achievement of human engineering!
How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with the World Heritage Volunteers!
  • Donate to UNESCO!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
Where is this place? There are lots of spots to visit along the wall, but for the sake of simplicity, I’ll direct you to the Mutianyu section, which I visited!

Mutianyu Great Wall Travel Area
Huairou District
Beijing 101405

I can’t even begin to list the directions, so I’ll recommend either booking a tour or taking the 916 bus from Dongzhimen station!

From Beijing: ~46mi (75km) — 0.8hrs
From Guilin: ~1264mi (2035km) — 21.1hrs
From Shanghai: ~805mi (1296km) — 13.5hrs
From Xi’an: ~719mi (1158km) — 12hrs

When should I go? Any time of year!, though I’d recommend spring for the plum blossoms or winter for the snow! From November through March, the wall is open from 7:30 AM until 5:30 PM, and from April through October, it’s open from 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM!
