Camp Young!

Camp Young
Landmark #985-3 Riverside County Visited: November 20, 2011 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque and great museum built on the site of Camp Young, part of General Patton’s Desert Training Center!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: The D.T.C. was established by Major General George S. Patton, Jr., in response to a need to train American combat troops for battle in North Africa during World War II. The camp, which began operation in 1942, covered 18,000 square miles. It was the largest military training ground ever to exist. Over one million men were trained at the eleven sub-camps (seven in California).

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Become a member of the General Patton Memorial Museum!
  • Join your local chapter of E Clampus Vitus!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
