Monument to the Battle of Nations!

Monument to the Battle of Nations!
What is it? A spectacular 91-meter monument commemorating the defeat of Napoleon in the Battle of Leipzig!
What makes it historical? Following his defeat in Russia in 1813, Napoleon Bonaparte found himself surrounded by the armies of four nations: Russia, Prussia, Sweden, and Austria! In this largest battle of the Napoleonic Wars, the diminutive conqueror held his own for four days but became overwhelmed by both numbers and his own strategies! He arranged for a quiet retreat but lost a great deal more soldiers when his incompetent corporal blew up the last bridge out of Leipzig before the soldiers had all finished crossing! This defeat marked a solid end to Napoleon’s power over central Europe, and the Monument, or Völkerschlactdenkmal, now stands in commemoration of this pivotal battle!
