Sánchez Adobe
Landmark #391 San Mateo County Visited: October 19, 2013 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The preserved adobe home of Francisco Sánchez!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This is the home of Francisco Sánchez (1805-1862), alcalde of San Francisco and commandante of militia under the Mexican Republic, grantee of the 8,926-acre Rancho San Pedro, and later a respected American citizen. His house, built 1842-46, afterwards was owned and remodeled by General Edward Kirkpatrick, it was purchased by the County of San Mateo in 1947 to be preserved as a public museum.

OTHER TIDBITS: Like many rancheros, Francisco Sánchez made his living as a cattle rancher, northern California’s primary industry before the discovery of gold! He was also a descendant of several settlers on the Anza Expedition!

This landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
