John Muir Home!

John Muir Home
Landmark #312 Contra Costa County Visited: July 12, 2014 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? John Muir’s home and historical orchard, still preserved in Martinez!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This is the ranch home of John Muir, 1838-1914, explorer, naturalist, author and foremost advocate of forest protection and of national parks. The John Muir Trail through the high Sierra, Muir Woods National Monument, and Muir Glacier in Alaska are named for him.

OTHER TIDBITS: Not enough can be said about John Muir in this post, so I hope this quote will do its part: “This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.”

Mr. Muir was a visionary who changed the way the entire nation viewed nature and the need to keep it around! As one of the founding fathers of the national park system, co-founder of the Sierra Club, and prolific writer on the ethereal beauty of the natural world, Mr. Muir deserves our eternal gratitude and admiration! Don’t forget to celebrate John Muir Day on April 21!

This landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
