Edgar Allan Poe House!

Edgar Allan Poe House
What is it? Baltimore’s Edgar Allan Poe House is a 2 1/2 story, 5 room house where Poe spent three transformational years living with his aunt, grandmother, and two cousins (including his future wife)!
What makes it historical? Mr. Poe wrote nine stories and eight poems in this house before he became the editor of the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond. In fact, he started off as a poet, but while he stayed here in Baltimore, Mr. Poe began to develop a fondness for writing short stories. In fact, though he was born in Boston, he later claimed Baltimore as his birthplace. It later claimed him, and his grave is a few miles from this house! His bedroom and traveling writing desk are still preserved in the top room of this tall, incredibly narrow home!
How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with Poe Baltimore, Inc!
  • Donate to Poe Baltimore, Inc!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
