Butte Store!

Butte Store
Landmark #39 Amador County Visited: May 8, 2015 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? The remains of the Butte Store are still standing by the road!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This is the only structure remaining of Butte City, prosperous mining town of the 1850s. As early as 1854 Xavier Benoist was conducting a store and bakery in this building. Later Ginocchio had a merchandise business here.

OTHER TIDBITS: To be specific, the latter was Enrico Ginocchio, who came to California from Italy in 1853 at the age of 16, seeking better opportunities! After several failed mining attempts, Mr. Ginocchio turned to a merchandising partnership with his uncle, E. Bruno and later his brother, Alphonso. Together, the Ginocchios built the largest mercantile enterprise in Amador County, which they operated until 1903!
