Memorial to Pioneer Odd Fellows!

Memorial to Pioneer Odd Fellows
Landmark #378 Alpine County Visited: July 12, 2015 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque and historical graffiti on a collection of large boulders!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: On some large rocks near Carson Pass, a group of pioneers inscribed their names and the emblem of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1849.

OTHER TIDBITS: The plaque itself says:

“Pioneers of California
Pioneers of the Brotherhood of Man

We Salute You. Your bodies have blended with the dust of the West. Your spirit lives and inspires.”

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows!
  • Donate to the Alpine County Historical Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
Where is this place? LISTED DIRECTIONS:
On State Hwy 88 (P.M. 5.3)
14.4 mi W of Woodfords, CA 96150

ANNOTATIONS:
This is a tricky one! Park in the lot on Red Vista Road, less than half a mile south of the intersection with Highway 88! You’ll have to bushwhack to find the boulders, but they’re about 500 feet southwest of the parking lot and pretty huge!

From Los Angeles: ~442mi (712km) — 7.4hrs
From Sacramento: ~101mi (163km) — 1.7hrs
From San Diego: ~535mi (861km) — 9hrs
From San Francisco: ~183mi (295km) — 3.1hrs

When should I go? Whenever the mood strikes you!

    1. You know, I’m not sure! They used a lot of initials. It looks like at least one of them had the same last name as you though!
