Old Emigrant Road, Amador County!

Old Emigrant Road, Amador County
Landmark #662 Amador County Visited: July 12, 2015 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque commemorating the Old Emigrant Road!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Here the Old Emigrant Road began a long loop around the Silver Lake basin, reaching an elevation of 9,640 feet at one place. This difficult portion of the road was used by thousands of vehicles from 1848 to 1863, when it was superseded by a route approximating the present highway.

OTHER TIDBITS: This was the route by which thousands of emigrants (pioneers) flocked to California over the Sierras, first to find land, then to find gold!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Volunteer with the Amador County Historical Society!
  • Become a member of the Amador County Historical Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
