The Maritime Museum of Ushuaia!

Maritime Museum of Ushuaia
What is it? The Maritime Museum of Ushuaia educates about the natural and human history of Tierra del Fuego and Antarctica!
What makes it historical? This is a really cool museum! It’s a repurposed prison from 1902, when Argentina decided this windswept island would be the perfect place to dispose of its most hardened criminals! Each wing is specially themed for maritime history, Ushuaia history, Antarctic life, and local art! Each cell has been recreated into a themed display ranging from famous inmates and the indigenous people of Tierra del Fuego, to the early explorers of the region and the fossil record of Antarctica!

One wing of the museum, called the Historic Pavilion, has been preserved exactly the way it was when it housed prisoners, down to the decrepit bathroom! Gosh, it would have been cold to live here!
