The End of the World Museum!

End of the World Museum
What is it? The End of the World Museum in Ushuaia preserves artifacts from throughout Ushuaia’s natural and human history!
What makes it historical? This museum may be tiny, but it has a lot of really neat displays. Right as you walk in, you meet the figurehead of the Duchess of Albany, which wrecked off the coast of Tierra del Fuego in 1893. There are lots of recovered artifacts from the many shipwrecks in this area, including the Monte Cervantes, the German passenger ship that bankrupted the Salvamar company and permanently beached the Saint Christopher in Ushuaia harbor!

I also enjoyed the extensive bird exhibit, which detailed all the native birds of Tierra del Fuego with names in English and Spanish and whether they lived in Tierra del Fuego all year or only part of the year!

This museum, which boasts one of the most extensive libraries of Fuegian, Patagonian, and Antarctic literature in the world, actually extends into two buildings, but I was only able to visit the one housed in the former Banco Nación. The other is in the former governor’s house, and that has a lot more great history on display!
