Brockett’s Bridge!

Brockett's Bridge
Not numbered. Herkimer County Visited: May 11, 2016 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque by a bridge spanning East Canada Creek!
What makes it historical? THE PLAQUE SAYS: Brockett’s Bridge (1829-1892) gave its name to this village on the military road. A hotel, post office, and liberty pole were nearby.

OTHER TIDBITS: This was a village of many patrons! Originally named Green’s Bridge after a fellow named Green built a bridge here in 1805, the town renamed themselves in 1826 to honor their first postmaster, Zephi Brockett! That name changed a third and final time to Dolgeville when piano manufacturer, Alfred Dolge, came to town and offered to build a factory there if the town would change their name in his honor!
