Standin’ on the Corner Park!

Standin' on the Corner Park
What is it? Standin’ on the Corner Park is a public art space with a bronze statue of a troubadour, a flat-bed Ford, and an Eagles-themed mural!
What makes it wonderful? This spot brings to life the famous song lyrics by the Eagles: “Well, I’m a-standin’ on a corner in Winslow, Arizona / Such a fine sight to see / It’s a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford / Slowin’ down to take a look at me.”

It’s a little bit kitschy and surrounded by paraphernalia shops, but what this little park has done since its dedication on September 10 and 11, 1999, is to save the town of Winslow, which was floundering after I-40 completely bypassed the town in the 1970s! When I visited, there were dozens of people coming and going, snapping photos, visiting shops, and eating at restaurants. Who knew what four lines in a song could do for a struggling desert city?!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Buy a brick at Standin’ on the Corner Park!
  • Donate to the Standin’ on the Corner Park!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
