| What is it? |
Hot Springs State Park is home to magnificent travertine terraces of hot, mineral rich water, and also the official state bison herd! |
| What makes it beautiful? |
The minerals that flow from the hot springs here have created amazing terraces of travertine, a type of limestone, that has been colored in yellows, reds, and greens by both the minerals themselves and the microorganisms that have made themselves at home in the 135° F spring water! Throughout the park, there are neat structures like the Tepee Fountain that were originally built to let out steam from below, but over the years have become coated in travertine, giving them an otherworldly appearance!
All of these sites can be taken in from a boardwalk or from the free state bathhouse, where you can soak in the mineral-rich waters, kept at a much more manageable 104°! |

| When should I go? |
The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset year-round, but the outdoor pools are closed between October 1 and April 30! The bath house is open from 8:00 AM until 5:30 PM, though you’ll be asked to limit your soak to 20 minutes during the busy season so more folks can enjoy the water! |
