What is it? |
This Gold Dome building was the fifth geodesic dome ever built! |
What makes it historical? |
In 1958, Citizens State Bank brought on the firm of Bailey, Bozalis, Dickinson, and Roloff to create a magnificent gold dome for their business! This gold dome, designed by inventor Buckminster Fuller, is made up of 625 panels joined together, creating a diameter of 145 feet! Though no longer owned by Citizens State Bank, the Gold Dome has been at the center of a battle between new zoning ideas and historic preservation groups! The latest rumor is that it is going to be turned into a grocery store! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Become a sponsor of Downtown OKC!
- Become a member of the Oklahoma Historical Society!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
