What Is Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park?
Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park preserves the Sinking Spring Farm where Abraham Lincoln was born!
What Makes It Historical?
In December of 1808, Thomas and Nancy Lincoln moved here to Sinking Spring Farm, where they had their second child, named Abraham after Thomas’ father, on February 12, 1809! They stayed here until young Abe was 7 years old, because ownership of Sinking Spring Farm was in dispute! After a five-year court battle, the Lincolns lost ownership of the farm and had to move. Today, a grand memorial stands over a reconstruction of the cabin where the 16th president was born, and folks still make pilgrimages here today!
