Mission San Gabriel Arcángel!

Mission San Gabriel Arcángel
Landmark #158 Los Angeles County Visited: May 15, 2011 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? The 4th mission (of 21) founded by Padres Pedro Benito Cambon and Angel Fernández de la Somera!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: The mission was founded September 8, 1771 by Padres Pedro Benito Cambon and Angel Fernández de la Somera. The present church building was begun during the latter part of the 18th century and completed in the year 1800.

OTHER TIDBITS: This mission was named after the Archangel Gabriel, one of God’s frontmen in Judeo-Christian tradition! He was considered the more merciful of the archangels and is mostly considered an announcer of things to come! As the fourth mission, the Mission San Gabriel could very well have been announcing the other 17 to come!

This landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
