What makes it historical? |
The Ming Emperor, Yongle, had this complex built between 1406 and 1420 AD. Once a year, he and his successors throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties would go to pray to Heaven for a successful harvest!
The complex is divided into three parts: the Imperial Vault of Heaven, the Circular Mound Altar, and the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests! This last building is colored blue on top for the gods, yellow in the middle for the emperor, and green on the bottom for the peasants. Its support pillars corresponded numerically with the seasons, the months, the hours, and the constellations! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
