Adobe de Palomares!

Adobe de Palomares
Landmark #372 Los Angeles County Visited: Sept. 25, 2011 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? The restored adobe of Don Ygnacio Palomares!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Completed about 1854 and restored in 1939, this was the family home of Don Ygnacio Palomares. Governor Juan B. Alvarado granted Rancho San Jose to Don Ygnacio and Don Ricardo Vejar in 1837.

OTHER TIDBITS: This adobe home was built at the time when California land was transitioning from Mexican to American ownership, which is seen in the Spanish-influence adobe and the Americanized milling of the roof and floor! Nothing went to waste here! In fact, the nice volunteer on duty showed me some lovely embroidery work that had been made from human hair! In short, not even hair clippings went to waste in this household! Oh! And there was also a commode that doubled as a step stool!

This landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places!
