Landmark #160 | Los Angeles County | Visited: December 3, 2011 | Plaque? YES! 🙂 |
What is it? | The oldest house in Hollywood is now a fairly old house in Calabasas! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Known as the “Oldest House in Hollywood,” this house was built in the 1870s by Eugene Raphael Plummer.
OTHER TIDBITS: What a feeble caption! The house was built by Eugenio and his brother, Juan, who were the sons of Captain John Cornelius and Doña Maria Cecelia Plummer! Their home was originally part of Rancho La Brea, which was broken up and redistributed by the US government in the 1870s! The Plummers got the land from a squatter named Señora Perez and there raised dairy cows and vegetables that they sold to the community. They were well acquainted with the Leonis family over the hills, and when the Plummer land went to pieces, the Leonis Adobe Association bought the house and brought it north to share a great Historical Park! |
