Zion National Park!

Zion National Park

What Is Zion National Park?

Zion National Park was Utah’s first and one of its more memorable. Its primary attractions lie in the multicolored Zion Canyon, whose massive cliff faces tower over the Virgin River!

What Makes It Beautiful?

While many of Utah’s national parks take full advantage of their Martian red, Zion prefers a more polychromatic approach. Its carved cliffs, with such names as Angel’s Landing, Mountain of the Sun, and Court of the Patriarchs, stir the soul from above and below. I highly recommend attempting Angel’s Landing, so long as the weather is safe. The views are spectacular, but if you’re stuck in a snowstorm, enjoy the peace and quiet. In Zion, it is absolute!

How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?

  • Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
  • Volunteer with the National Park Service!
  • Donate to the Zion Natural History Association!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!

How Do I Get There?

The Main Entrance is located about 1.7mi (3km) north of Springdale on UT-9.

When Should I Visit the Park?

The crowds in Zion are most intense during the summer, so I recommend early spring or late fall. I was there in the winter, and it was serenely peaceful, so peaceful, in fact, that I encountered a California condor on the trail! However, if you’re looking to climb one of the more daunting monoliths, I would recommend a drier season.
