The Human Evolution Museum!

The Human Evolution Museum
What is it? El Museo de la Evolución Humana is a spectacular museum in the heart of Burgos, dedicated to understanding where the human race came from and where it’s going!
What makes it historical? When I think of Spanish history, I think of religious wars and Inquisitions! Never did I imagine a place like this existing in the city of Burgos! The Human Evolution Museum not only provides an in-depth history of the Atapuerca findings, but it also lays out an amazing display of prehistoric Europe, something I never really paused to consider! I’m so used to studying the ancient animals of North America (lions, camels, ground sloths, etc) that I’d never even considered the ancient bison and jaguars of Europe! There was a lot of continent swapping going on!

On the upper levels, there are ornate exhibits detailing not only the progression of human evolution but also the routes that each took out of Africa, which species coexisted and which may have produced the other! There are fascinating exhibits on the brain and the development of fire, tools, agriculture, and even music as important factors in human development! Even for a beaver, I thought this was a really well put-together collection of history of the human race!
