La Cristianita!

La Cristianita
Landmark #562 San Diego County Visited: June 29, 2012 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque with a cross!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Near this spring, the first Christian baptism in Alta California was performed by Padre Francisco Gómez, a member of the Portolá Expedition, in 1769.

OTHER TIDBITS: Apparently, these were two sick Native American children who were baptized before they died so they could go to Heaven!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Volunteer with the Camp Pendleton Historical Society!
  • Donate to the Orange County Historical Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
