| What is it? | The Mission Inn is still open for business! |
| What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Frank A. Miller (1857-1935) made the adobe bricks for a small 12-room guest house that he opened in 1876. Over the years he added to the building to create this remarkable Mission Revival style building.
OTHER TIDBITS: Thanks to the citrus boom started by Eliza Tibbets and her orange trees, Riverside in the 1890s was the richest city per capita in the entire country! With all this wealth coming into and sprouting from Riverside, it was time to add a luxury hotel to accommodate such distinguished guests! Amid a wealth of treasures collected by the Millers, including a bell collection that features the oldest known bell in the world, presidents, reformers, social leaders, and entertainers of all media types have rested in luxury! This landmark is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places! |
