Site of Bend City!

Site of Bend City
Landmark #209 Inyo County Visited: Sept. 29, 2012 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? There’s nothing left here!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Bend City, a population center in the middle 1860s, was designated as the seat of Coso County, but the county was never formed. It was here that the first county bridge across Owens River was constructed. The 1872 earthquake changed the course of Owens River, so the site of Bend City was near an empty ravine instead of on a river bank.

OTHER TIDBITS: That pretty well sums it up!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Friends of the Eastern California Museum!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!

ANNOTATIONS:
That may be correct, but the remains here are so scarce that you’d be hard-pressed to find any remnants that are definitely from Bend City! This old mill was at about the 5.4-mile mark!
