Don Bernardo Yorba Ranch House Site
Landmark #226 Orange County Visited: October 21, 2012 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque by the side of the road!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Here Don Bernardo Yorba created the greatest rancho of California’s Golden Age, combining the Santa Ana Grant awarded to his father by the King of Spain in 1810 and lands granted to him by Governor JosĂ© Figueroa in 1834. He was the third son of JosĂ© Antonio Yorba, who came with Don Gaspar de Portolá in 1769 to establish California’s first family.

OTHER TIDBITS: The second half of Don Bernardo’s land holdings was called Rancho San Juan Cajon de Santa Ana and spanned 13,328 acres! His giant adobe, which he named San Antonio after his favorite saint, had somewhere between 50 and 100 rooms, not just for his family but also for the artisans and tradesman he’d hired on!

Don Bernardo married three times and had 20 children; his friend took the marriage vows in the third ceremony then brought his new bride down to the rancho afterward! His descendents are widely spread throughout Southern California!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:
