Casa de Machado!

Casa de Machado
Landmark #71 San Diego County Visited: February 9, 2013 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? A sign outside of a restaurant!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This adobe house, constructed about 1832 by José Manuel Machado, pioneer leatherjacket soldier of the Spanish Army who arrived at San Diego Presidio about 1782, is now used as a community church.

OTHER TIDBITS: The leatherjackets, or soldados de cuera, were named for their sleeveless, knee-length buckskin armor! This particular leatherjacket played a role in protecting Missions San Luis Rey and San Diego, as well as assisting in the foundation of the Las Flores, Pala and Temecula asistencias! For his service, he received the Rancho de la Nación in Baja California!
