What is it? A plaque in a park!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This plaque commemorates the life and influence of a woman who envisioned a beautiful San Diego. On this site she operated a nursery and gained world renown as a horticulturist, she was the first woman to receive the International Meyer Medal in genetics.

OTHER TIDBITS: Kate Olivia Sessions was a nursery owner, teacher, landscaper, and founder of the San Diego Floral Association! She was the City Landscaper of San Diego for many years and operated an experimental nursery in a corner of the City Park. From 1892 until 1902, Ms. Sessions planted hundreds of trees across what would come to be known as Balboa Park!
