Sinks of the Tejón!

Sinks of the Tejón
Landmark #540 Kern County Visited: February 18, 2013 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque by the side of the road!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Six miles east of this point was the site of the Butterfield Stage Line station Sinks of Tejón. Operating through present Kern County during 1858-61, this famous line ran from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco until the outbreak of the Civil War.

OTHER TIDBITS: This landmark is also known as Alamo, station of the Butterfield Overland Mail Lines! The area came to be called Sinks of the Tejón because this was where the water of Tejón Creek would sink into the ground before reaching Kern Lake during the dry season!
