Landmark #939 | Imperial County | Visited: Sept. 16, 2013 | Plaque? NO. 🙁 |
What is it? | A bunch of rubble that was once Driftwood Charley’s collection of found art! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Charles Kasling began sculpturing near Andrade in 1967, and his creations now fill a site of approximately two and a half acres. His style, best described as eclectic, was inspired partly by his world travels with the U.S. Navy and partly by the desert terrain.
OTHER TIDBITS: Driftwood Charley came to California for his health, and once he settled in this area, he used stones and other found objects to piece together elaborate sculptures depicting biblical events! Sadly, none of these pieces remain! |
