What is it? | This still-active winery and vineyard introduced the world to the quality of Livermore sacramental and commercial wine! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Here, in 1883, James Concannon founded the Concannon Vineyard. The quality it achieved in sacramental and commercial wines helped establish Livermore Valley as one of America’s select wine-growing districts. Grape cuttings from this vineyard were introduced to Mexico between 1889 and 1904 for the improvement of its commercial viticulture.
OTHER TIDBITS: What kinds of grapes start historical wineries? Well, in the case of Concannon, the first successful winery founded by an Irish immigrant, the grape was of the Bordeaux variety! Over the course of the next four generations, Concannon Vineyard also introduced Petite Sirah to the States and produced the vine cuttings that helped launch the famous California Cabernet! |
