What is it? | A stone monument marking the site of Robert Louis Stevenson’s former cabin! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: In the spring of 1880, Robert Louis Stevenson brought his bride to Silverado. He and Fannie Osbourne Stevenson lived here from May 19 until July, while he gathered the notes for Silverado Squatters.
OTHER TIDBITS: Robert Louis Stevenson came to Silverado with his new bride, Fanny, to spend their honeymoon away from the Bay Area fog. While he was here, he spent a good deal of time sampling wines, which he described as “liquid poetry!” In his book, Silverado Squatters, the famed author of Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde took a turn from fiction and described his sojourn in Napa Valley as a “Scot Abroad,” detailing life on the side of Mt. St. Helena, the wines, the petrified forests, and some of the locals! |
