What is it? |
The Washington Monument is a 600-foot high, Egyptian obelisk designed by Robert Mills to honor and memorialize George Washington! |
What makes it beautiful? |
The monument is a sight to behold at any time of day, but to me, it is most beautiful when it is lit up at night. Then, it becomes a beacon of light, towering high over the nation’s capital! At all times of day, it is situated on lines running from the White House and the Capitol building, so that it would be the centerpiece of the nation’s capital! It is also visible from all of the other presidential memorials and monuments, so that they can look on their predecessor! I also really like the ring of flags around the base. |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer with the Washington Monument!
- Donate to the Trust for the National Mall!
- Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
