What Is the World War II Memorial?
The World War II Memorial immortalizes the deeds of the Greatest Generation in water and stone!
What Makes It Beautiful?
This spectacular memorial really captures the immensity of Allied victory during the war with powerful relief carvings, memorable quotes, and constantly flowing fountains! Encircled by granite monuments to every US state and territory in order of admission to the Union, it has a towering pavilion on the north and south ends, paying homage to the victory in the Atlantic and the Pacific!
At the west end, there is a gallery of 4,048 gold stars to commemorate the 405,399 American lives lost during the war. It is a peaceful, beautiful spot directly between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial!
