What is it? |
Baltimore’s Edgar Allan Poe House is a 2 1/2 story, 5 room house where Poe spent three transformational years living with his aunt, grandmother, and two cousins (including his future wife)! |
What makes it historical? |
Mr. Poe wrote nine stories and eight poems in this house before he became the editor of the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond. In fact, he started off as a poet, but while he stayed here in Baltimore, Mr. Poe began to develop a fondness for writing short stories. In fact, though he was born in Boston, he later claimed Baltimore as his birthplace. It later claimed him, and his grave is a few miles from this house! His bedroom and traveling writing desk are still preserved in the top room of this tall, incredibly narrow home! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:

- Volunteer with Poe Baltimore, Inc!
- Donate to Poe Baltimore, Inc!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
