What is it? |
Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens preserve some of the last marshland in the national capital area and are home to dozens of lotus and water lily species! |
What makes it beautiful? |
I didn’t get to visit at the time of the year when the lilies were all in bloom, so I can’t just talk about flowers! Instead, I enjoyed the serenity of the emerald pathways among Walter Shaw’s historic ponds! It doesn’t seem to be a highly visited park in the autumn, so there are plenty of chances to take a nice stroll and enjoy the wildness. There were a few great blue herons on the hunt, and it turns out there are so many dragonflies here that you’re not too likely to get a mosquito bite in Kenilworth Park! I got to frolic on some of the leaves, but I didn’t get to see the giant Amazonian water lilies, because, it turns out, some beavers had made off with them! I really should write them a letter to tell them how not cool that is! |
