What Is the Thomas Jefferson Memorial?
The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a round, white, pillared temple that houses a tall, bronze statue of third president, Thomas Jefferson!
What Makes It Beautiful?
The beautiful, white Jefferson Memorial sits both tranquilly above the Potomac and is reflected with equal loveliness below, especially during the annual cherry blossom blooms in early spring! It reminds me of a Greek temple, housing one of the country’s great fathers, designed to look like Jefferson’s favorite architectural style, which he used for his home, Monticello! His majestic bronze figure, designed by Rudolph Evans, towers over the visitor, looking past his Declaration to behold the capital of the nation he helped found!
As principal author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson led the way for ideals to triumph over the status quo, fully aware that he and his fellow Congressmen could have been signing their death warrants. I think courage like that is pretty amazing!
