What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: This is the oldest store building along the north coast of San Luis Obispo County. Built in the 1860s at Whaling Point, one-half mile to the west, it was moved to its present location in 1878. It has been operated by the Sebastian family for over half a century.
OTHER TIDBITS: This store has served lots of different groups, from whalers to ranchers, quicksilver miners to Chinese kelp farmers, and lighthouse keepers to tourists! Its original owners are unknown, but the Frankl family owned it from 1873 until 1900 and even moved it via horse-drawn skids! William Randolph Hearst was known to shop here, as were Calvin Coolidge, George Bernard Shaw, and Winston Churchill! |
