Landmark #654-1 | Sacramento County | Visited: March 21, 2015 | Plaque? NO. 🙁 |
What is it? | There’s nothing left here but an address! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: This site was the first Jewish cemetery in California. On November 12, 1850, R. J. Watson gave a Deed of Trust to Louis Schaul: “Lot number four in the square between thirty-second and thirty-third and J and K Streets . . . for the Sacramento City Hebrew Association for a burial ground.”
OTHER TIDBITS: I could not find any other information on what happened to this cemetery, but I suppose it met the same fate as the New Helvetia Cemetery! |
