What is it? |
Tonto National Monument is made up of two cliff ruins from the long-vanished Salado people! |
What makes it beautiful? |
I really love the view from the trail, with the saguaros overlooking Lake Roosevelt in the distance! But there’s something special about cliff ruins, like the way the sunlight blends its colors into the rocks!
The Salado phenomenon was actually a blending of different cultures in the valley of the Rio Salado (Salt River). This coming together of different people created amazingly colored pottery and intricate cloth weavings! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee and contribute toward trail and structural maintenance, sign design, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer with the National Park Service!
- Become a member of the Western National Parks Association!
- Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
