What is it? | The Old Timers Museum in Murphys! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: Constructed by Peter L. Traver in 1856, this is the oldest stone building in Murphys. Its iron shutters and sand on the roof protected it from the fires of 1859, 1874, and 1893. It served as a general store, a Wells Fargo office, and later a garage.
OTHER TIDBITS: This building was slated for demolition but was saved by Dr. Coke Wood in 1949! Now it is called the Old Timers Museum and is full of artifacts from the mining years and from local Native American tribes, all donated by the community! |
