What is it? | A shared plaque with Omega Hydraulic Diggings! |
What makes it historical? | THE GUIDE SAYS: One mile north of here were the towns of Alpha and Omega, named by gold miners in the early 1850s. The tremendous hydraulic diggings, visible from near this point, engulfed most of the original townsites. Alpha was the birthplace of famed opera singer Emma Nevada.
OTHER TIDBITS: Emma Nevada started her illustrious career at the age of three with an impromptu performance of the Star-Spangled Banner! She would go on to study at Mills Seminary then went across Europe, where she worked with the likes of Giuseppe Verdi and Enrico Caruso, and became Queen Victoria’s favorite singer! |
