Town of Gold Run!

Town of Gold Run
Landmark #405 Placer County Visited: July 11, 2015 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque in the community of Gold Run!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: Originally called Mountain Springs, Gold Run was founded in 1854 by O. W. Hollenbeck. It was famed for its hydraulic mines, which from 1865 to 1878 shipped $6,125,000 in gold. Five water ditches passed through the town to serve the mining companies, but they had to cease operations in 1882 when a court decision made hydraulic mining unprofitable.

OTHER TIDBITS: Gold Run’s hydraulic mines produced a sum total of over $15 million, a yield so high that the riches alone prompted the name change to Gold Run!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Volunteer with Placer County Museums!
  • Become a member of the Placer County Historical Society!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
