What is it? |
Christ Redeemer, or Cristo Redentor, is a 98-foot (30-meter) tall art deco statue of Jesus high on Corcovado mountain overlooking Rio de Janeiro! |
What makes it wonderful? |
It’s a massive statue that is visible all across the city, day and night, built from the donations of a community coming together in unity! It’s a symbol of warmth and welcoming, but it’s also a reminder of morality in a city that’s famous for its criminal activity!
The City of Rio de Janeiro, which this statue crowns, is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as an amazing blend of art and civilization that has inspired countless creative endeavors over the years! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer with the World Heritage Volunteers!
- Donate to Christ the Redeemer’s Supporting Companies Program!
- Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
