Bonner Grade!

Bonner Grade
Landmark #15 Modoc County Visited: March 11, 2016 Plaque?  NO. 🙁
What is it? There’s a plaque base by the side of the road but no plaque!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: The first road from Cedarville to Alturas followed the course of the present highway over Warner Mountains from Surprise Valley. It was named in honor of John H. Bonner, who was instrumental in securing the construction of the road over Bonner Grade in 1869.

OTHER TIDBITS: This was an important route for passenger stage lines and freight wagons on their way to Yreka!

How can I Help the Helpers? HERE’S HOW:

  • Become a member of the Modoc County Historical Museum!
  • Be a responsible visitor! Please respect the signs and pathways, and treat all structures and artifacts with respect. They’ve endured a lot to survive into the present. They’ll need our help to make it into the future!
