What Is Fathom Five National Marine Park?
Fathom Five National Marine Park is made up of the islands and 22 shipwrecks off the coast of the Bruce Peninsula!
What Makes It Beautiful?
The shipwrecks are amazing, and the dolomite flowerpots of Flowerpot Island are unearthly, but the true jewel of this park is the water itself! Crystal blue and amazingly clear, it not only gives peeks into long-drowned history, but it also ripples into so many shades and hues when it creeps up on the rocky beaches! Situated on Lake Huron (so not technically marine), the water is not as full of life as the ocean, which makes the area seem lonely and delicate, mysteriously frozen in time and place! I hear it gets pretty lively when the orchids start blooming, though!
How Can I #HelpTheHelpers?
- Pay the entrance fee to help maintain trails, signs, structures, and other visitor services!
- Become a member of the Friends of the Bruce District Parks Association!
- Donate to Friends of the Bruce District Parks Association!
- Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
How Do I Get There?
All boats to Fathom Five leave from the town of Tobermory! I hopped aboard Blue Heron Cruises, whose kiosk is located at:
24 Carlton St
Tobermory, ON N0H 2R0
(Take Me There!)
When Should I Visit the Park?
I visited in early May when there were no tourists, but it was a little chilly and wet. Summer time is finest, temperature-wise, and you’ll get to see all the wildflowers! For tour times and dates, visit Blue Heron’s website!
