What makes it historical? | THE PLAQUE SAYS: Site of the inland canal begun in 1792 and completed in 1797. The Erie Canal was relocated here in 1844.
OTHER TIDBITS: The Erie Canal, completed October 26, 1825, ran 363 miles from the Hudson River at Albany to Lake Erie near Buffalo! This plaque marks a revision of the original canal between Rome to Dewitt! The revised canal is still in use for outdoor recreation! |
