Buck’s Lake!

Buck's Lake
Landmark #197 Plumas County Visited: July 10, 2016 Plaque?  YES! 🙂
What is it? A plaque stuck to an obscure boulder!
What makes it historical? THE GUIDE SAYS: This was the site of a ranch established by Horace Bucklin and Francis Walker in 1850. Later came a large hotel, post office, and express office. The site is now inundated by Buck’s Dam and Reservoir.

OTHER TIDBITS: At the turn of the 20th century, Buck’s Ranch shifted from supply stop to vacation destination! Folks would come back to the ranch to camp, fish, and hunt by buggy or by stagecoach, and in winter, they would use dog sleds!

This didn’t become a lake until 1925, when the Feather River Power Company hauled all of their supplies up into the remote Sierras and spent three years building a dam, which today powers many communities within this stretch of California!
