What is it? |
Oregon Caves National Monument protects a deep cave of marble and its many formations! |
What makes it beautiful? |
This cave was beaten up pretty well by its early visitors, who took lots of souvenirs and wrote their names on flowstone, which got coated in a translucent layer of calcite that can’t be erased! Heck, folks used to have parties in the Ghost Room with a 4-piece band that they hauled all the way down into the depths! For that reason, there aren’t as many spectacular formations as in some other caves, but there is one room that makes it all worthwhile: the Paradise Lost Room! Here, you can gaze up at intricate drapery formations that resemble parachutes or mushrooms from Wonderland! |
How can I Help the Helpers? |
HERE’S HOW:
- Pay the entrance fee and contribute toward trail and structural maintenance, sign design, and other visitor services!
- Volunteer at Oregon Caves National Monument!
- Donate to the Friends of the Oregon Caves and Chateau!
- Be a responsible visitor! Remember the old adages: Pack out what you pack in! Take nothing but pictures and leave nothing but footprints!
